We are . . "A community of people called by God to gather for worship, study, and service, in the name of Christ.  As a gathered community, we seek to serve God and humanity by going in obedience into the world and speaking words of reconciliation and renewal."

In June 1974, The Reverend Dr. George Fallon was appointed to organize a new congregation in North Arlington. On June 16, the first worship service was held in the Ramada Inn with 79 attending. Each week the fellowship grew. In October 1975, the church moved to Butler Elementary School, and on May 23, 1976, the congregation broke ground for the first stage of its building program on land deeded to it by the Metropolitan Board of Missions. The modern 6400 sq. ft. facility was completed, and the young congregation worshiped for the first time in its permanent quarters on Palm Sunday, 1977. Since those early days, the church has undergone two more phases of construction: education and administrative space in 1981 and a 650-seat sanctuary in 1998. A 7,000 sq. foot 8 classroom education building was completed and dedicated on April 22, 2007.

In our 33-year history, New World has enjoyed the gifts and graces of six pastors. When Dr. Fallon became ill, The Reverend James R. Porter was appointed the church's pastor in January 1977. He served this congregation until August, 1983, when The Reverend J. Allen Goss became the church's third pastor. In June 1987, The Reverend Dr. James A. Sanders, Jr., became the fourth New World pastor, serving until December 31, 1998. January 1, 1999, The Reverend Claus H. Rohlfs, Jr., was appointed to ministry here and he served this congregation until November, 2000.  The Reverend Dr. Ben Feemster served as Interim Senior Pastor from February-June, 2001, and The Reverend Mike Dawson began his ministry at New World June 17, 2001.

Over the years, New World has also benefited from the caring ministries of associate pastors. Retired pastor from the Northwest Texas Conference, The Reverend Dewitt Seago, served as associate pastor from January 1981- December 1984. The Reverend Barbara Johnson-Arther served as associate pastor from June 1989-January 1992. In March 1992, The Reverend Joe Carmichael joined the staff as associate pastor and served until his appointment in 1998 to become the founding pastor for a new United Methodist Church in the Mansfield-South Arlington area chartered as Community of Hope United Methodist Church. The Reverend Suzi Boeglin was appointed in June 1998 to serve this community of faith as associate pastor, leaving in June 2003 to become the director of Arlington Urban Ministries. The Reverend Dr. Sharon Tuck served as Associate Pastor from June 2003-June 2005. Deacon Rick Springer was appointed to New World in 2002 as children’s choir director and moved into the position of Minister of Music and Deaf Ministry in January 2003, leaving in March 2007. Rev. Gordon Johnson joined the New World staff in 2002 as an Intern while he attended seminary. He became Ministry Associate in 2005 and following his commissioning as a Deacon in 2006, began his tenure as Minister of Pastoral Care.

In November 1993, after much study and consideration, New World's Strategic Planning Committee presented a report to the Administrative Board addressing programming, staff, facilities, and finances. Adopting the committee report, the Administrative Board placed emphasis on small group ministry to meet the practical, emotional, and spiritual needs of members and others outside our church who seek to grow in their faith or to be comforted. In response to staff and programming issues, Kristen Lane was hired to serve as New World's first Director of Christian Spiritual Formation in May 1998. Kristen's focus was narrowed to Children's Ministry Director, a position in which she served until March 2006. Jill Dyer was hired in August 2006 as Children’s Ministry Director. To accommodate growth in the youth department, Michelle Frawley was added to the staff in May 2000, assuming a part time position assisting youth directors Bill and Sheri Womack. Another entry point for growth, New World's Preschool, operated as its own entity for a number of years, coming under the church's umbrella during the 2002-2003 school year with Gail Hall as Director.  April Walker is currently serving as New World Preschool Director.

Recognizing the critical need for more space, the Strategic Planning Committee also recommended expansion of facilities which would include a new sanctuary and increased education and administrative space. Our first worship service was held in the newly completed sanctuary in January 1998. Work on our next construction project began in Fall 2005, expanding the campus with an 8-classroom education facility and a major renovation of the church’s original kitchen.

In 2004, a committed group of volunteers dedicated their musical talents to the formation of “The Way” Praise Band and kicked off a once a month Saturday evening non-traditional worship service in September of that year. In August 2006, our contemporary praise service found their home as a regular part of our Sunday morning schedule and Kenny Robison was hired to lead the 9:30 am worship service each week.

With more than 1450 members, The New World family continues to grow in discipleship, mission and outreach. There is a place for you at New World, and we invite you to make New World your church home.

The symbol of our church is the Latin cross binding the two hemispheres of the world.   This symbol represents our outreach and responsibility to all.
