Members of this group serve on many church committees and participate in a wide variety of activities such as Vacation Bible School, prayers for New World Youth on various trips, ushers, greeters, and the Arlington Life Center. You can become a member if you or your spouse are retired from gainful employment. There is no age requirement. Gordon Johnson is the direct contact for this group. Membership as of October 2003 was 116.
A potluck luncheon is held the second Tuesday of each month. The 11:30 A.M. program is held in New World’s Fellowship Hall and averages 72 in attendance.
The retiree’s breakfast meeting is held the 4th Tuesday at the Cracker Barrel on Watson Rd/360 from 8:00 A.M. till 9:30. This meeting does not have a program and the attendance averages 30.
Retired Old Men Eating Out (ROMEOS) meet each Thursday morning at La Madeleine on North Collins starting around 7:30 A.M. This group loves a good cup of coffee and great conversation!
Contributions to New World by the Retiree’s group over the last few years include the purchase of 10 folding tables, 3 coffee urns, 2 large televisions, furnishing and decorating the Crying Room in the sanctuary, and decorating the church nursery.
Retirees have enjoyed traveling together to such places as Fredericksburg and attending various plays at the Granbury Opera House in Granbury, TX. Some have gone on tours to various countries and cities in Europe. Future trips include the Forbidden Gardens, in Katy, Texas, a fascinating outdoor museum replicating some of China's major historic scenes.
