This faith community desires to walk with you as you journey the road of faith. We seek to do that through worship, learning, study, prayers, service and missions, and fellowship. Naturally, there comes a time when God calls us to make a commitment to our faith walk. We invite you to make that commitment with this body of believers. And with you, we renew our commitment to walk closer to Christ.
Upon making this decision, you are invited to contact one of our pastors. Rev. Leslie Byrd, Senior Pastor, or Rev. Erin Sloan Jackson, Associate Pastor of Missions. Their contact information is: Rev. Leslie Byrd – Rev. Erin Sloan Jackson –
They will explain the process to become a member of the body of believers at New World United Methodist Church.
    • You may choose to first go through an Orientation about the United Methodist Church, its history, and the particulars about New World and its history. Rev. Leslie Byrd leads this Orientation process. It is approximately 2 hours long and can be scheduled through Pastor Leslie. It is not required, but informative and helpful.
    • If you are joining as a first-time Profession of faith, you will be asked to respond to historic questions asked, and then you will be baptized into the faith. We honor all 3 forms of baptism in the United Methodist Church, (sprinkling, pouring, and immersion) but would need to secure a location for immersion in advance. We can schedule your baptism at a time when family can be present to celebrate with you.
    • If you have never professed you faith in Jesus Christ, there are basic fundamental questions that are asked upon their joining as a Professing Member. These are:
– Do you renounce the spiritual forces of wickedness, reject the evil powers of this world, and repent of your sin? (Response: I do.)
– Do you accept the freedom and power God gives you to resist evil, injustice, and oppression in whatever forms they present themselves? (Response: I do.)
– Do you confess Jesus Christ as your Savior, put your whole trust in his grace, and promise to serve him as your Lord, in union with the church which Christ has opened to people of all ages, nations, and races? (Response: I do.)
– According to the grace given to you, will you remain faithful members of Christ’s holy church and serve as Christ’s representatives in the world? (Response: I will.)
    • If you are transferring your membership from another church, it is helpful to the previous church if we send a letter of transfer. If you do not have the name and contact information for us to send a letter, it is not required. We will transfer you as a “Member of another United Methodist Church” or “Member of another denomination.”
    • If you are a college student in this area, or living in our location temporarily and you wish to join this congregation, but retain Professing membership at your home church – which would be Methodist/United Methodist, you may join as either an Affiliate or Associate Member as long as you reside in this area.
    • Membership means that you are a part of this body of believers and the household of God, and agree to faithfully support it and participate in the ministries by your Prayers, Presence, Gifts, Service, and Witness.
